Old Rectory

Alterations of a Grade II Listed House, Suffolk

The refurbishment and conservation of the Old Rectory, a timber-framed building of two distinct phases.  At the heart of the scheme was the reimagining of the circulation routes which had lost their clarity after years of subdivision and accretions.  The early 16th century core has been re-ordered to provide a central entrance hall, a large kitchen which opens up towards the garden and a sitting room.  A new staircase leads to the master ensuite above.  The early 19th century wing provides a dining area, drawing room and bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and is served by a second staircase.

The challenge was to thermally upgrade the external envelope and to weave features from many different building phases into a family home for 21st century living.
