CGA has secured consent for a substantial extension to an enchanting, Listed ‘Cottage Orne’ in a parkland setting near Bury St Edmunds.
The proposals add contemporary, open-plan space, allowing the cottage to be preserved in its original configuration and detail.
The extension takes its cues from the soft roof forms and steep gables of the cottage, substituting thatch with diamond pattern zinc.
Feature windows and extensive glazed screens blur the boundary between internal space and the surrounding woodland.
Once complete, the scheme will combine conservation with respectful, considered new build, transforming an unloved and forgotten heritage asset into a family home fit for the C21.
